Thesis:  Reaping the Whirlwind: Regaining the Irish Catholic Literary Voice of 19th Century America Through the Works of Christine Faber, a book-length collection of an out of print author’s short stories as published in Redpath’s Weekly from 1882-1884, with critical essays and introductions to each story.  Advisor:  Dr. Holly Blackford. Second Reader: Dr. Carol Singley.

Rowan University. Masters of Science in Teaching, Secondary Education, English. June 2002- August 2003. GPA: 3.9. Thesis:  An Exploratory Study of the Impact of Alternative Approaches to Treatment of Bullying Behaviors at the Middle/High School Level in a Southern New Jersey School District.  Advisor: Dr. Thomas Monahan.

Rowan University. Bachelor of Arts in English with an Honors Concentration, Political Science Minor. GPA: 3.7. September 1989- January 1993.  Senior Thesis: Decoding Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.  Advisor:  Dr. Cindy Vitto.

Law - Related Work Experience

Research Assistant.  Professor J.C. Lore, Co-Director of the Children's Justice Clinic, Rutgers School of Law - Camden.  Summer 2007- Present. Assisted in research for a series of articles, editorials and media appearances in the area of juvenile law. Assisted with class on Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiation.

President.. WHOA:Women Halting Online Abuse, Clementon, NJ. February 1997-December 1998.  Founded, organized and ran a small non-profit organization dedicated to educating the Internet community on the issue of cyber-safety. Interviewed in many major publications including the New York Times and AP Newswire for instrumental role in lobbying for public awareness on this issue. Now at http://www.haltabuse.org and run by Jayne Hitchcock.

District Representative. Congressman Robert Andrews,  Somerdale NJ. March 1994-March 1995.  Managed casework in the areas of environment, tax, labor, and civil rights. Organized community events. Researched local issues. Participated actively in public relations strategies on a daily basis. Directed intern program. Provided extensive writing support including business letters, desktop publishing, brochures, certificates, awards, letters of recommendation etc.

Intern. Congressman Robert Andrews,  Somerdale NJ. January 1992-September 1993.  Created standard correspondence base. Formulated business correspondence. Organized community events. Participated actively in public relations strategies on a daily basis. Provided casework support to District.

Unique Educational Experiences

Domestic Violence Mini-Clinic:  Domestic Violence Practice and Procedures experimental mini-clinic in Summer 2007.  Assisted with the development of an FRO case through the Camden Center for Law and Social Justice. With a partner, developed a brief on the issue of interstate custody for the Center's use. 

Marshall-Brennan Fellow. Selected for this highly competitive program that puts law students into local high schools to teach constitutional law for a semester while developing a paper on educational/constitutional law issues. 2007-2008 school year.  Seminar paper on L.W. v. Toms River, the New Jersey Supreme Court case that allows students being bullied for sexual orientation to recover against schools under New Jersey's Law Against Discrimination if the school failed to provide adequate resolutions when alerted to the bullying. 

Campus Involvement

Chaired three panels during the 2007 Public Interest Symposium including Pro Bono Within Firms, Individual Rights, and Bar Association Membership. 

 

Statement of Interest

Interested in family law, domestic violence, women's issues, juvenile justice, labor law and education law. 

Journal

Staff Member.  Rutgers University Journal of Law and Religion, 2007-2009. Currently writing a journal note on D.I. v. Corps of Bishops, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an Oregon case in which the Oregon Supreme Court would require the LDS church to disclose their financial records, records which the church has kept sealed since 1959, as part of the process of trying a case against a home teacher accused of molesting a youth while allegedly on duty for the church. 

 Pro Bono Activities

Trained MediatorMediation Project at Rutgers School of Law.  Participates in municipal, small claims and landlord/tenant mediations, having completed the state training in mediation.

Street Law Presenter.  Participates in teaching students in assorted settings, such as juvenile detention centers and community youth programs, about legal issues of interest to them.  Click here for media about Street Law that includes quotes by Lynda Hinkle.

Domestic Violence Project Participant.  Assists in educating people entering into the courtroom to attempt to obtain an FRO under the New Jersey Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.

Legal Team. Children's SSI Project.  Assists pro bono council at Pepper Hamilton to work on SSI case for disabled children seeking to get Social Security benefits. 

Participant. Immigration Project. Provides immigration information to city residents in need of it on a group or one on one basis. 

Community and School Organizations

President. Interfaith Law Group. Runs organization committed to offering positive educational, social and networking experiences for students on any faith path, at any stage of their path in the context of their law education.  The group has run several programs for the law school community including multiple programs that brought judges such as New Jersey Associate Justice Rivera-Soto, Federal Judge Renee Bumb, and Judge Raymond Solomon to discuss faith and the law.  In Spring of 2007 it also ran a successful program examining the issues brought up by the 20/20 program on Camden's youth which included the participation of a variety of community groups. Also developed and maintains the group's website.

Committee Member. Juvenile Conference Committee in Haddon Township. Program run by Camden County Superior Court Vicinage to enable juvenile offenders not adjudicated for misdemeanors a chance to go through an alternative system in which an individualized program is developed for them to counteract recidivism. 

Board member. Camden City Mentorship Institute. New organization seeking to develop a standard for mentoring among organizations in the city, and a central clearing house for mentoring training and development. 

20/20 Working Group. Member of an organization that erupted from the 20/20 program on Camden's youth. The organization meets to discuss various initiatives being implemented for the city's youth.

Interactive Coordinator.  Women's Law Caucus. Developed and maintains the group's website.

Editorial Board Member. Dictum: The Young Lawyer's Division Newsletter for the New Jersey State Bar Association. 

Member. American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association, Camden County Bar Association.
